The word “osteoporosis” is from “ostes” which means Bone, and “porosis” implying thinning or becaming more porous. Osteoporosis means “thinning of bone”. Osteoporosis is a disease of bone which bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced means one has a low bone mass and deteriorating bone tissues. Otherwise your bones is thin, brittle and easily broken. bone mass (bone density) is the amount of bone present in the skeletal structure. The higher the density the stronger are your bones. Your bones density are influenced by genetic factors, environmental factors and medications.

The consequences of osteoporosis may inpair a person for life. The spinal or vertabral fractures also have serious consequences, including loss height, severe back pain, and deformity. Osteoporosis can cause a person to stoop forward and appear to have a hump on his/hers spine.

Many people do not realize they have osteoporosis until it’s to late. Here are some signs 1) Acute onset of back pain (mid-lower back) without any specific reasons 2) Fractures in the thigh bone, hipbone or lower arms bones above wrist. 3) Sharp pain in the backs ribs, hip or wrist 4) A hunched forward or bent stature 5) Loss of height due to collapsing vertebrae. 6) Stooped posture 7) Limited mobility

Here are multiple reasons that could lead to osteoporosis 1) Among women the deficiency of Estrogen ( a group of hormones) post menopause has been correlated to a rapid seduction in BMO. 20 The increase risk of falling associated with aging, leads to fracturesm of the wrist, spine and hips. 3) Other hormone deficiency states can lead to osteoporosis such as testosterone deficiency. Glucocoticord or thyroxine excess states also leads to osteoporosis. 4)Not eating foods rich in caluim, Vitamin D and Phosphorous can also cause bone loss. Caluim/ Vitamin D deficiency from malnutrition also increase the risk of osteoporosis.  5) Some mediciens can inhibit the body’s ability to absorb calcuim. This may cause bone to weaken. These medications include cortisone, corticosteroids, anticoagulants, drugs 6) Other illnesses or disease, over active thyroid, diabetes, rheumatord arthritis, bone loss 7) other significant factors leading to the onset of osteoporosis include, smoking cigarettes, high intake of alcohol, tea, or coffee, low levels  physical activity and family history.
