Acupuncture and Diabetes…
28 03 2010Think of acupuncture and the sight of needles being stuck into the human body comes to mind. This ancient Chinese art is actually a well respected profession amongst alternative healers. The treatment of acupuncture needs to be carried out by a well reputed and experienced person. Do not go to a quack who might do you premanent damage, but if you have access to a genuine acupuncturist it is well worth a visit for niggling symptoms.
The Chinese believe that the life force in the body is controlled by an energy known as Chi. This has two parts called Yin and Yang which are opposite but complementary to each other. Diabetes is seen as an imbalnce of the Yin according to the tenets of acupuncture. The deficiency in Yin leads to an imbalance in the Yin and Yang forces in the body leading to disease due to the impairment of the body’s Chi.
The treatment of daibetes in the acupuncture system would involve a combination of needling prescriptions and dietary medicine based on the differentiation of the disease type. This analysis will involve researching the person symptom’s to determine which of the three main organs is most deficient in the Yin energy. These organs are the lungs, the kidneys and the spleen. The treatment will be a combination of upper, middle or lower burners.
The main points that will be used are quchi, sanyinjiao, zusanli, yuj, guuanyuan, baihui and yishu. This is not to say that other points will not be used. In some acupuncture sessions up to twelve points will not be used. In some acupuncture sessions up to twelve points may be simultaneously treated. Those diabetic patients who have undergone treat of acupuncture for diabetes have revealed that the blood sugar is easier to control after the treatment. There is about a session a week done over a long term. It is not expected to be a one time remedy.
It is to be understood that while the acupuncture seeions will help to control the symptoms and provide relief for them, the treatment can not cure the disease. Those with recent diagnosis of the disease and milder symptoms will find that they are benefited greatly. Chronic patients will not see a major improvement right away, but over a long period of time they will be some visible difference. The medically acceptable diet and herbs are also essential to the treatment. So the dietary restrictions are to be adhered to strictly while undergoing treatment.
