   Those with type two diabetes may ignore early signs of the disease because they are unware of what to expect. The faster one gets detected with diabetes the easier it is to bring the disease under control. This means that you need to pay attention more closely to your body.

   Any changes from the normal could indicate a disease that may need checking into. This is especially true if you have a family history of diabetes. This means that if your mother, father or any grandparent has diabetes you are more likely to get it. So be alert to charges in your body.

   If you are gaining or losing weight rapidly you need to check the reason for the weight change. If you feel thirsty very often without any apparent reason and then keep making frequent trips to the bathroom, you need to check your blood sugar level.

   If your eyesight is bothering you, you must test your eyes to stop nerve damage. This is irreversible so make sure that you take action right away. If healing of a simple cut takes longer than a week you need to check yourself right away. There may be more serious underlying reasons for these changes.

Your growth will be normal and you can keep your bllod sugar levels under control. You can even adjust your diet to enable you to lose weight slowly in case you are overweight or obese.

   Remember food is the fuel for your body. You put in the right fuel and the machine works well. You put in the wrong fuel and the machine will splutter and give up on you. You cannot afford to put in the wrong food into your body and have it give up on you.

   If you already have diabetes you can still benefit from a well balanced meal plan. By eating well-balanced meals in the correct amounts, you can learn to thrive with diabetes. Track what you eat to manage your diabetes and prevent the onset of complications.

   If you do not have diabetes but are in the right risk group of contracting it, you need to eat healthy sensible food so as to avoid the disease. You need to have proteins, carbohydrates, mineral, vitamins and fiber in your diet. Even fat is needed in small amounts for optimal body functioning.

   There are two types of diabetesw that can afflict children. The type 1 diabetes which is where the body does not produce insulin at all, or in such small amounts that it is of no use. And the other type 2 diabetes where the body in producing insulin, but becuase of lifestyle habits it is not enough for the needs of the body.

   Type 1 diabetes is not possible to avoid or cure as it is a result of a damaged organ, the pancreas. However with type 2 diabetes, which is also known as Adult Onset Diabetes you have a choice. The child may never develop this type of diabetes if the parents insist on a healthy lifestyle for the child.

   As a parent what must you do to enusre that your child does not develop type 2 diabetes? How are the two main points that you need to consider with respect to this problem.

Regular Physical Activity

Kids today spend a lot of time indoors on computers, watching Tv or playing with their video games. It is very important for the child to get involved in sport and games which take him or her outdoors.

   Smoking is bad for you.  As per the American Diabetes association’s technical review “Smoking and Diabetes”, smoking is the leading avoidable cause of mortality in the United States of America. One out of every five deaths is caused by cigarette smoking.

   Smoking can increase your risk of turning diabetic. If you have a family history of diabetes and are obese then you are at a far higher risk of developing diabetes than if you do not smoke. And if you happen to be diabetic, smoking is even worse for it raises health complications which may be suppressed.

   Other complications of smoking on diabetes include retinopathy (eye disorder), heart disease, stroke, vascular disease, kidney disease and nerve damage. Smoking also makes managing diabetes more difficult for diabetes patients.

   By quitting smoking you can decrease the chances of your developing diabetes and in addition a host of other conditions such as Cancer of the mouth, throat, lung and bladder, stroke, Heart attack. Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Increased blood pressure, limited joint mobility, increased cholesterol and other fat levels in your blood, impotence, miscarriage and stillbirth.

   So do yourself a huge favor and get set to kick that butt. Smoking is just not a viable option for a diabetic.
