Use Autogenic In Diabetes…
5 07 2010What exactly is Autogenic Training? Autogenic training is a century old European method for achieving relaxation based upon passive concertration and body awareness of specific sensations. It is a technique that teaches your body to respond to your verbal commands. These commands “tell” your body to relax and control breathing, blood pressure, heartbeat and body temperature.
The goal of Autogenic Training is to achieve deep relaxation and reduce stress. This helps makes it a powerful tool for self management of a number of lifestyle diseases, including diabetes. Recently a study conducted in children and adolescents having type 1 diabetes mellitus showed that it was a good tool to use.
A group of 21 children aged between 9 to 14 years were given Autogenic training for 11 weeks. At the end of the training their parents described fewer problems with attention, less test-anxiety and less aggression and nervousness. This also helped in their control of diabetes as emotional health is linked to physical health.
Autogenic training consists of six standard exercises that make the body feel warm, heavy and relaxed. The way it works is not understood completely, but it does help in ways similiar to hypnosis and biofeedback techniques. Diabetics who have used the technique all claim to be in better control of the disease.
