Diabetes Genetic…
21 07 2010There are three types of diabetes Type 1, Type 2 and Gestation diabetes. In type 1 there is little choice as you will be born with it. However type 2 is what is called Adult onset diabetes. This is the one which can be prevented and even reversed if caught in time.
There does seem to be some indication of greater risk of developing diabetes if your parents or grandparents have the disease. However it is not necessary that just because your parents had diabetes, that you will also get the disease. Although you will have to work harder at keeping it away, than others would need to.
A number of environmental factors such as obesity, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diet and the age factor come into play to decide if you will develop diabetes. If you are neglecting your health and even if you do not have a family history of diabetes, it could just pop up in you!
So having a genetic disposition towards developing diabetes may not mean that you will get diabetes. Plus not having a hereditary disease of diabetes also does not mean that you will not get diabetes. It is best to look after your health and get regular check ups done so that you can beat the disease.
