   Exercise Can Boost Your Mood:

During a stressful day, exercise can elevate your mood by simply preforming basic aerobic activities such as jogging and stretching. Even a 30 minute walk can cool you down and make you feel better. When you exercise, your body releases a hormone called serotonin. It is a hormone that controls your mood and the lack of it can cause depression. A regular exercise can maintain a healthy level of this hormone and thus significantly make your mood lighter. Exercise also makes you feel younger, healthier, and it can make you look better. This adds up to your confidence and self-esteem.

   Exercise Can Boost Your Energy:

However, basic aerobic exercises can actually provide you more energy in the long ran because it trains your body to get used to physical activities. On top of that, regular exercise improves the flow of oxygen to the blood and tissues and this strengthen your body, improves your blood flow, and improves oxygen intake all throughout the circulatory system, especially your brain. Your heart is also trained to pump at faster rates and cope with the strenuous activity that you will soon find yourself taking thins in stride.

   Exercise Can Boost Weight Loss:

Every movement requires fuel or energy. As you exercise, your body burns fuel faster than it would have if you are just sedentary. This does not mean you have to enroll in a gym or start lifting those weight. You can do simple things like walking a few hundred meters instead of taking the car, walking the flight of stairs instead of taking the elevator, or doing simple jumping jacks while watching the television. You can also dance or shadow box for a few minutes. While at the office, stand and stretch for a few minutes and you will see how it can boost your stain and energy for the day.

Now that you know how simple exercise can benefit you, do you think it is difficult to accomplish. Obviously, you have no justification not to exercise and not care about your body. Exercise is not only for health buffs but for everyone is any age group. As mentioned, you do not even have to spend to exercise. You do not read fancy gym equipment and memberships. You do not need trainers and all that. All you need to do is to move!

The Top 4 Tips On Fighting Diabetes

30 03 2011

Diabetes is a fearsome chronic disease. However, one should not lose hope if one develops it. There are many ways to fight it and it only takes the courage and discipline to consistently manage your blood sugar levels. Below are the top four tips to follow to ensure that you enjoy life and worry less about your diabetes. Make sure you practice them with unfailing diligence and you will see the difference.

Take Lipoic Acid: This acid is a medicine that you have take for about 300 mg per day. What this does is it improves the sensitivity of your insulin receptors. This is one effective way in beating diabetes because blood sugar destroys these insulin receptors and therefore, the body is misled that it has no more insulin, causing the pancreas to create more. Insulin is the hormone that balances the blood sugar level. With the insulin receptors damaged, the body may produce too much insulin or no insulin at all and this causes an imbalance in the blood’s sugar level.

Drink Apple Cider Vinegar: This vinegar is a good chemical to prevent sugar spikes in the blood steam. what it does is to help reduce the body’s insulin resistance and thus it is a great way to beat diabetes Type 2. Studies have shown that people who took at least four teaspoons of this vinegar showed a 30% reduction rate in the rise of blood sugar. With lower blood sugar spikes, you will need lesser insulin.

Have A Healthy Diet: Since beating diabetes is more efficient if attacked through diet, the best way to combat the disease is through eating right. Diabetes is highly related to your food intake because the food you eat is converted into sugar and this is exactly what you have to avoid.

It is highly recommended that you eat in small portions and avoid taking snacks. Eating this way can help reduce and regularize the sugar fluctuation in your body. It is also wise to avoid meat and poultry products or foods because have high calorie content and are easily converted into glucose form. When eating, try to reduce your intake of sweets like chocolates and cakes. It is better to eat vegetables.

Regularly Exercise: Exercise is a great way of fighting diabetes. It lowers your cholesterol level and also significantly lowers down your body’s sugar level. Most people think that that physical activity can cause fatigue to a diabetic but contrary to this, exercise is a great way of getting rid of all the extra sugar from your blood stream. You do not have to enroll in a gym of any sort. You can take a brisk walk to the park or take the stairs instead of the elevator. This should be exercise enough.

We know that beating diabetes is tough. However, you need to have a strong drive to make these things happen. Pretty much, you need to consistently do the recommendations above to get maximum results. Diabetes is not something that should debilitate you. Fight for your health using the power of discipline and knowledge.

Your Health Depends On These 2 Ingredients!!!

29 03 2011

Nutrition and exercise, obviously are daily essentials. What we aim to describe here are the benefits of proper nutrition, proper diet and exercise. Just because we eat and move everyday does not mean we will be healthy. There has to be a certain span of control to the portions of the foods we eat, depending on their contents. In this article, we will try to understand what proper nutrition is and then see how daily exercise can benefit our overall well-being.

   Understanding Nutrition:

What you need to eat is alot are foods rich in macronutrients because these foods are the foods that fuel your body’s energy. Macro nutrients have three major divisions, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

   1. In terms of human nutrition, carbohydrates are like gasoline. This is your main source of energy that allows your body to move, think, and practically do anything that it does on a daily basis to function well. Too much carbohydrates can also make you gain weight, which is also unhealthy. Ideally, your diet should contain 55% of carbohydrates per day. Your main sources of carbohydrates are grain, vegetables, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, and other starchy tubes.

   2. Protein, on the other hand, function as your main repair man. What it does to restore and repair damaged cells, bones, tissues, and much more. Protein have amino acids and lipid that strengthen your immune system. Without protein, you will feel fatigued and weak. As you go along everyday, your cells are subjected to wear and tear. Without adequate protein, your cells will not function properly even if you have carbohydrates. Your main sources of protein are milk, cheese, eggs, and meat form fish, poultry, beef, and pork. Ideally,, your diet should consist 15% of protein.

   3. Fats are divided into two groups: the saturated and unsaturated fat. Saturated fats are rich in cholesterol and these are what you need to avoid. Unsaturated fats, on the other hand, are good for your body. The good fat is the kind of fat that is stored in your body as extra source of fuel when you are running low with carbohydrates. Bad fats form clots that block your arteries, causing heart attacks and extra weight. Sources of good fats are vegetable oils, olive oil, nuts, and fish like tuna. Your diet should have only about 30% of fats.

   The Benefits of Exercise:

We have all been encouraged to exercise since we were little kids. As we grow older, our priorities have changed. The media and a lot of companies have also introduced dozens of new tools and exercise machines. But if you will really think about it, all you have to do is to go back to the basis and should be good to go. Regular exercise does not have to entail any cost. Simple exercise as jogging, push-ups, sit-ups, and many others can do a lot of wonders for the body. Below we have listed several benefits of exercise, all of which should be enough to convince you to exercise now.

   1. Improved metabolism- as you exercise, your metabolism also improves, causing you to lose weight and burn unnecessary calories and fats.

   2. Better Muscle Tone- maybe you do not have the time and money to go to the gym and pay an instructor to train you and guide you to add bulk and shape your body. However, exercising daily at home will significantly improving your muscle tone and add shape to your overall physique.

   3. Lesser Stress- exercising daily can increase the production and release of a hormone called endorphin. It is a pleasure hormone released when we are happy. This hormone takes  away depression thus can improve your mood. With elevated levels of this hormone, you can also improve your social life by being more amicable and relaxed when dealing with people.

Should You Still Trust Drug Companies After All The FDA Recalls?

28 03 2011

For so many years, we have entrusted our health to drug companies that manufacture medicines. All of these, of course, are tired and tested medications that are proven to be effective in reducing, if not eradicating, the maladies and illnesses that we have. Or so we were led to believe. Unfortunately, we should be wary of drug companies because health should be free and should not come at the price of side effects and complications, or DEATH!!!

   Do Not Trust Felons:

Several drugs companies have been charged and convicted of felony because they manufactured adulterated drugs. The problem is , not a single person running these companies went to jail. All they had to do was to recall their products and pay a hefty sum as a fine. This means that these felons running these companies are Scot-free and can do further damage to normal citizens like us.

Did you know that about 20% of drug companies are charged with felony for malpractice? These companies have been proven to manufacture drugs below the expected standard procedures and we, the poor community of average individuals, have been gorging ourselves with their product! Worse, these drug companies claim that their processes in manufacturing are standard practice! This means that sub par standard is their standard! This only means that they do not care about our health. So why should we trust these felons?

   Do Not Be Fooled:

Commercials and advertisements show lovely young ladies and brusque young men claiming that a particular drug changed their lives and made them what they are. False! These commercials are designed to lure you into buying these drugs with the expectation that your quality of living will improve.

Perhaps you are not aware that many drug companies have been found to have used contaminated water in processing medicines. Some have even been found to have produced drugs with uneven dosages! Can you imagine that? With these kinds of standards, these companies are putting you at risk. We pay so much money believing that these drugs will make us better without realizing that we have just added risk to our lives.

Health need not be expensive and it should not put us in a questionable state. Nutrition should be free and a healthy body should be easy to maintain. We do not have to reply so much on crooks who promise good health by using their drugs. With all the recalls made by the Food and Drug Agency, all of us should start practicing caution now whenever we buy drugs to improve our health.

Being healthy does not need to be costly. It is completely free and all it takes is discipline and making the right choices. The food you eat will significantly affect your overall physical and mental state. Just make sure you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and you should be in the right track. Keep in  mind that if you are healthy to begin with, you will never need drugs. Always keep a healthy body and you can say goodbye to these crooks!

The 7 Warning Signs Of Diabetes

26 03 2011

In the U.S. alone, diabetes affects 17 million people. Unfortunately, about six million of these people do not know that they have diabetes until the disease is full blown. The great news is that there are tell tale signs if you have diabetes. Here, we have compiled the top seven warning signs of diabetes and we are hoping these symptoms will alarm you and prompt you to go to a physician. Read on and take a look if you are showing these symptoms.

   Increased Urination:

If you observed that you are urinating more frequently than usual, you should consider this as a sign of diabetes. Keep in mind that this can be a sign of other disease. With diabetes, the sugar levels of the blood are abnormally high and this forces the blood to flow faster through the kidneys, thus prompting the kidneys to eliminate more often than usual.

   Excessive Thirst:

Although drinking lots of water is recommended, feeling thirsty all the time is not normal. Due to the increased frequently of urinating, your body also easily drains itself of water and thus you need to replenish it quickly. Without replenishing your lost fluids, your body may get dehydrated and you can get into further complication.

   Extreme Weight Loss:

If you lost weight significantly for no apparent reason, you need to consult your physician. A good indication of significant weight loss is if you are not exercising and yet you lost weight. If you have diabetes, the body is going to break down your muscles and fat to use as fuel. The lack of sugar intake in the body’s cells will make the body go into a starvation mode and thus prompt it to use your stored fat and protein found in your muscles.

   Extreme Hunger:

Diabetes denies the body of glucose, the primary sugar that the cells need to operate efficiently. This makes your brain think that it needs more nutrition and feel and thus prompts you to be hungry even if you have just eaten enough for the day.

   Extreme Feeling Of Being Tired:

Fatigue is very common if you have done a lot of tasks for the day. If you are experiencing fatigue abnormally and you feel that you are always drained, you may have diabetes.

   Impaired Vision:

With diabetes, there is an increased blood volume due to the high sugar level in the blood. This occurrence can lead to your eye’s lens swelling abnormally and cause you to have an impaired vision.

   Flu:

Sometimes you may think it is just your ordinary fever. However, the symptoms associated with flu are also the same with diabetes. These symptoms include runny nose, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, and sweating.

Now that you know the most common symptoms and signs of diabetes, it will not hurt you to visit your doctor. Explain the irregularities that you have observed and he will diagnose you carefully whether you have diabetes. Always check if there are abnormalities in your hunger, thirst, or weight. Sometimes, an abnormal weight gain is also a sign of diabetes so it would help if you regularly check your weight.

The Top 4 Health Benefits Of Saunas

25 03 2011

Bathing in a sauna is not a common practice. However, people must realize that this is one essential habit of healthy people. It helps promote good health through various ways through simply staying in a hot room, bathing in stream and enjoying the silence of the place. Below, we have described multiple benefits of sauna that can help convince you why it is an important activity that you should start doing. Based on a lot of people’s testimony, a sauna bath can do wonders for the body and the spirit.

   Muscle Soother:

Noticeably, sauna can smooth aching muscles and joints. This is because the heat causes the body to release endorphins, a natural pain reliever and pleasure giving chemical. This chemical acts as a tranquilizer and reduces the soreness in the limbs, especially in the feet. In a sauna bath, the blood vessels dilate and this improves blood circulation. This causes the body to heal faster because an improved circulation means there is a regular distribution of oxygen to the brain, making it work better.

   Stress Reliever:

According to all who have experienced bathing in a sauna, stress relief is the top benefit you can gain. Stress is medically proven to cause health problems. It reduces the ability of the immune system to combat viruses and diseases. This is why people experiencing fatigue are very likely to get sick. With a sauna bath, your body experience relaxation through the heat and the stream. The silence itself in the sauna room is enough to take you away from the busy world that causes your stress.

   Toxin Flusher:

The body absorb toxins everyday from the atmosphere and from the food we eat. Normally, we get rid of these toxins through sweating. However, most of us live a sedentary lifestyle. A trip to the sauna causes you to sweat and this releases the toxins accumulated in your body like zinc, mercury, copper, and other chemicals. Aside from this, the production of sweat actually cools the body and makes you feel relaxed.

   Sleep Inducer:

Recent research studies were able to prove that a trip to the sauna can cause a person to sleep due to the relaxation. The endorphins released while bathing in a sauna can cause sleep. As the sauna bath also gets rid of your stress, your mental and emotional state is also improved, allowing you to sleep deeper. As we all know, sleep is an integral process by which the body gets the time to heal, multiply cells, and regenerate lost cells. Without adequate sleep, your body will suffer from fatigue and you will not be able to concentrate at work during the day.

Are you ready to go to the sauna now? If you have a hot shower one cold evening, you may have an idea how sauna can deliver better result. Stream bath is rarely used but it is one of the most relaxing activities that you can do that can make you sweat and eradicate toxins. In fact, this can also work as a method to lose weight.

Understanding Diabetes: Going Back To The Basics!!!

24 03 2011

Diabetes is a chronic disease that everyone is dreading. We all hear people who have diabetes who have diabetes and yet we understand very little about the disease. Here we will try to unravel what it is to help everyone understand this illness that is taking the lives of thousands of people each year. First, we need to understand the digestive process so we can also comprehend the mechanisms of the disease.

   The Digestive Process:

When we eat food, the food is dissolved and is turned into a form of sugar called glucose. This sugar is then transported to the different cells of the body to fuel the body’s need for energy. To get the sugar at an acceptable level, the pancreas produces a hormone called insulin. This hormone’s function is to control the levels of insulin in the blood stream and to move the sugar from the blood stream to the different areas of the body where it it needed.

   The types Of Diabetes:

Diabetes occurs if a person’s pancreas fails to produce enough insulin. Lack of insulin causes the sugar to stay in the blood stream. Thus, the fuel is not delivered to the parts of the body where it is needed. We thought that that there are only two type of diabetes but there are actually three.

The first type of diabetes, also called Type 1, normally shows signs in childhood. Most people are diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 20 but for Type 1, this can be detected in childhood. For Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas makes very little amount of insulin. This means that the body does not have the appropriate vehicle to transport the sugar to where it is needed. There is no known cause for this type of diabetes but it is generally suspected that it is hereditary and also acquired through viruses.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body does not respond appropriately to insulin. This means that the body is rejecting the insulin and therefore, the pancreas is not making enough of it. If the body does not respond to insulin, the pancreas would think that there is still an adequate amount of it and thus the production will be very low, causing the sugar to get stuck in the blood stream.

   The risk Factors:

There are many known risk factors for diabetes and being aware of these can help you to be more health conscious. Below is a list that you can pursue.

   1. Age- diabetes normally develops over the age of 45 but it can also happen to children

   2. Lack of Exercise

   3. Heart Disease

   4. High Cholesterol level in  the blood

   5. Obesity

   6. Genetics- if you have a relative who has it, you are more prone to develop diabetes

Now that you know if you are predisposed to have diabetes, you should be ringing warning bells in your head now and determine if you are  a likely candidate. If you are, our general advice is to lessen your intake of food with high sugar to help your body keep up with the level of glucose in your bloodstream.

Getting Healthier Through Spirituality

23 03 2011

If you are consistently unhealthy and in a chaotic emotional state, chances are you are not in control of your life and that there is a need for you to revisit your spirituality. We are not talking about religion here but your own connection to your own body and to nature. For thousands of years, meditation has been practiced even in the oldest of civilization. This has proven to be very healthy and effective in boosting a person’s stamina, mental health, and even physical well-being.

If you will really think about it, the body’s movements and workings are embedded in the mind. If you will just take a few moments to remove yourself from the physical or external world, you can help clear your mind of the clutter left in there and help your brain use up its energy to where they should be spent. You can also be assured that your mind is focusing its energy in achieving good health. With a clear mind, you can expect to be able to do more.

Mindfulness Meditation: This is a type of meditation that requires silence, insight, and concentration. Buddhists call this type of meditation Vipassana. What this requires is for you to meditate on the things happening around you. This also entails that you need to be aware of how you feel. This includes your thoughts and emotions, too. Your goal is to be mindful of what you do and get rid of being judgemental. The main goal of this meditation is self-awakening and this is accomplished through watching your breath while in a relaxed position. Close your eyes and listen to your surroundings.

Transcendental Meditation: This is a higher type of meditation in which you have to chant a mantra. This is done continuously until you are in a altered state of consciousness. This  of course, is an advanced form of meditation. Once in transcendence, your body is going to heal quicker and become healthier because you are essentially controlling your brain waves and taking it to a level that is deeper than sleep. As you know, sleep is what allows our body’s cells to multiply and heal. If you can take your brain state deeper than sleep, you will experience better stamina and better health.

Breathe Meditation: This is a simple kind of meditation that you can do in many places and situations. All you have to do is watch your breath while you are in comfortable position. Watch your breath until everything seems quiet. Close your eyes and pay close attention to your breath. As you progress, your mind will begin to wander, causing you to get rid of stress. By breathing slowly, you are improving the oxygen flow in your body and helping your heart pump at a better or normal rate, thus increasing the effectiveness of the blood delivering oxygen to your body and to your brain.

Meditation does not have to be complex, all you need is a place where you can sit and relax. you can do these exercises in the office when few people are around. You can do it in the house or while relaxing in the bathtub. If you are not into meditation now, it is not too late to start.

Process vs. Raw

22 03 2011

Processed foods are those were preserved. Essentially, they were from their original or natural state. This is done mostly for the purposes of preserving the food to make them reach further areas. Another purpose of  processing food is so remove bacteria. Some foods not easily in their natural state so processing and preserving are equally important. The most common ways of processing foods are freezing, canning, and dehydration.

Many people immediately cringe at the sight and sound of processed foods, claiming that it is bad. There is a little truth to this but we should not be over generalizing. For example, we all drink processed milk and only a few really drink milk in its unprocessed form. In many instances, processing food does not really strip the food of its minerals and nutrients. In fact, these nutrients are also preserved.

On the bad side, many processed food contain high amounts of trans-fats, sugar and salt, all of which are not good for your health if taken in huge amounts. These foods include the following.

   1. Canned foods with high amounts of fat and  salt

   2. Packaged snack foods

   3. Foods made from refined flour

   4. Processed meats

Processed foods of this type have been linked to cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, and other chronic diseases. They can also cause obesity because they contain chemicals that the body cannot digest.

Raw foods are those that you eat in their natural form or cooked form. These foods are healthy and there are no known disadvantage when eating them except for the taste and blandness. Scientifically, live plant foods have higher nutrients than process foods. The only challenge in maintaining this diet is where to get them fresh everyday and how to keep them fresh.

Eating live plant foods have so many benefits but many individuals do not maintain this diet because it entails a lot of pain taking steps. For example, people are so busy that they simple do not have the time to cook. The solution to this is to eat raw. Below are the benefits of eating live plant foods.

   1. Raw foods have higher nutritional quality. This means you eat lesser portions because you easily get fill. This also means you will not gain weight.

   2. Raw foods take little time to prepare. All you have to do is to wash and slice. You are also safer because you will not get burns from cooking.

   3. Eating raw foods also reverse the adverse affects of chemicals that you take from processed foods. The raw nutrients form live plants were scientifically proven to improve heart rate, lower cholesterol levels, improve diabetes and reduce free radicals in the body that are known to cause cancer.

Now that you know the differences form live plant foods or raw foods and processed foods, making a decisions between the two should be fairly easy. What makes the decision making difficult is the kind of lifestyle you are living now and the kind of determination you have to achieve good health.

How To Improve Your Health With A Nutrition Rich Body

21 03 2011

Before we even get started, we need to set a fact and a realistic expectation, that there is no shortcut in improving one’s health. This means that improving a person’s overall health is not something you can do with eating so called power pills. It takes discipline and true determination to have this accomplished.

Here, we will explain a few things that will serve as your guide to help your body improve using nutrition facts and proven techniques. However, you should also be aware that nutrition is a complex process and there is no single manual that can make you healthy. Generally, speaking, we all need foods that will supply our bodies the nutrients needed to go on living day by day.

   Cook Your Own Food,

This is something that many people miss. We are not saying that fast food and restaurant foods are unhealthy. However, cooking your own food allows you to determine the specific food to eat relative to the nutrient you need. If a doctor advised you to eat more protein, you have a choice to get protein from meat or boiled eggs even vegetables. Learning how to cook also allows you to save so much money.

   Eat Food First,

Many individuals have relied so much on food supplements and pills to supply their bodies of the nutrients they need such as Vitamin C. The problem is that these pills are concentrated on that specific vitamin. The better thing to do is to identify the foods that are rich in the nutrient that your body needs and make it a part of your diet.

In the case of vitamin C, there are so many foods that can supply you with it like oranges, fruits, and pepper. This means that you are adding variation to your diet instead of taking pills. On top of that, the foods that you pick are definitely going to contain more than just vitamin C.

   Choose The Right Colors,

To ensure that you are eating the right food and improving your health, you have to choose colorful foods at every meal and make sure they are at your plate. And yes, you need to eat them, too. This means eating at every meal and make sure they are at your plate. And yes, you need to eat them, too. This means eating more vegetables and fruits on your plate. So many of us have settled down with a one course meal even if there are so many choices out there. A serving of two fruits every meal plus green vegetables is colorful enough to supply your body with the nutrients it needs.

As you can see, nutrition can very from one person to another. The only person who can really say what you need specifically is you or your nutritionist. There is no single formula that may be used universally to improve one health. The general idea is to identify your daily activities and find out what specific nutrients you need. Health is something you should really be conscious about because it is the very foundation of your existence. Without a health body, you will definitely get sick and miss out the many things in life that make it meaningful.
