Do You Understand Enzyme!!!
29 04 2011Digestive enzymes are essential part of the digestive process that break down food and nutrients into a form that the cells can absorb. Without these, all the food we eat will be pretty much unless. These enzymes are found in our digestive tract and inside our cells. These enzymes are also found in our saliva so as early as the chewing process is digestion, the food we eat is already broken down into blocks that our cells can absorb. Below we will show you the three major areas in the body where enzymes are produced and are very active.
Oral Cavity Enzymes: Human and animal salivary glands produce digestive enzymes that help break down food while it is chewed. Aside from breaking the food down, the enzymes in the mouth also disinfects the food before it is taken in the esophagus down to the digestive tract.
One type of enzyme found in the mouth that you should know is potassium bicarbonate. What it does is to neutralize the acidity levels in the esophagus. Another type of enzyme that plays a critical role while the food is in the mouth is amylase. What it does is to break down carbohydrates in the food into simple sugar that the cells can absorb.
Stomach Enzymes: Stomach enzymes, also called gastric enzymes, crush and mix the food taken to the stomach. The main digestive enzyme present in the stomach is called paperhanging. If this enzyme is in its active form, it is called pepsin. The main job of pepsin is to break down protein so the cells can absorb them. Without these enzymes, protein will not be absorbed and therefore, damaged cells will not be repaired. The stomach also produces an enzyme called hydrochloric acid. Essentially, it destroys all the bacteria and virus found in the broken down protein. Without this enzyme, there is a huge possibility to get infected and get sick.
Pancreatic Enzymes: Our pancreas has endocrine glands. Both of these glands produce enzymes released in the circulatory system. What these enzymes do is to control the sugar levels and metabolism in the form of insulin. The pancreas also secretes enzymes that maintain its own health. The ducal cells in the pancreas manufacture bicarbonates that neutralize the acidity level in the stomach. If you remember, the mouth also has such enzymes.
If you will think about it, the enzymes play a very important role in the digestive system. However, it seems to be one of the most ignored. Without these enzymes working properly, your body will not receive the nutrition it needs to produce energy and repair damaged cells. What you can do to make sure your enzymes work is to eat more foods that will help make the work easier for the enzymes. You can eat less acidic foods and eat foods in their form such as vegetables so digesting them is easier and will require less production.
