Meats and fish are the most popular sources of protein without a doubt, but does that make them the best? The answer is No. In this article I will present you with a few protein filled alternatives, which can surely give meat and fish run for their money. The first alternative we will talk about could actually be mistaken for piece of meat.

   In fact it looks like meat so mush that it has been given a nickname “wheat-meat” due to its meaty texture and its wheat content. The product is called seitan, and its made mostly from ground wheat.    As per Australian specialists from Garvin Institute of Medical research based in Sydney the addition of small doses of coconut oil in the daily diet can actually help lower fat levels in the body. this consumption of small amounts of coconut oil can also help protect the body against insulin resistance and this helps prevent the chances of a person developing type 2 diabetes.

   The study was conducted by Nigel Turner and Jamming Ye on mice which were given lard and coconut oil based diet. Mice are metabolically very similar to human beings and their bodies are often used in experimental drug studies. The mice which were given the coconut oil doses managed to be more effective in weight management.

    Coconut oil is very rich in medium chain fatty acids which are different from the long chain fatty acids that one usually consumes in animal based fats. The medium chain fatty acids which are plant based can help the human body to lose fat more effectively.

   In a long term study the Taiwanese researchers found that the regular use of Tai Chi helped lower blood sugar levels in 30 middle aged adults with type 2 diabetes. It also helped in reducing the risk of developing diabetes as per an Australian research study which was conducted independently of this one.

   11 adults with a high risk of type 2 diabetes did a combination of tai chi and qi gong both of which are Chinese practices designed to promote good health. The breathing techniques, the mental imagery the fluid movements and the medication involved all contributed to health benefits in all those who practices these arts.

   These forms of exercise are ideal for older adults who need low impact and moderate activites to promote physical fitness. Those with diabetes could also have the additional benefit of the alternative healing technique of lowering their blood sugar levels.
