One of the reasons why diabetic person tend to avoid juices is because they think that juices are rich in sugar. This may be true about fresh fruit juices which can have a fairly high content of fruit sugar known as fructose. This is also true if your idea of drinking juices involves grabbing a packed or tinned can of fruit juice.
These sorts of juices even have artificial colors, preservatives and sometimes added sugar to make the juice taste nice. It does not exactly paint a picture of health for the person who consumes such drinks. This is definitely not the healthy type of juices that you should be drinking.
However this is not true of vegetable juice, especially freshly made vegetable h=juices which you consume immediately. In fact the juice of vegetables such as bitter gourd has been shown to actually help reduce blood sugar. This means that the kind of juices that you drink can affect your health. In a study conducted at the University of Alberta about 500 people aged between 55 and 81 years were studied. Of the subjects studied 41 had type 2 diabetes. The team of researchers found that they also had high blood pressure, some were obese and problems with balance and walking, and most were in a poor state health.
The risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease was higher in those who were already suffering from diabetes. While the research so far has not been able to figure out why, it is seen that each of the conditions fuels the damage that is caused by the other one. Type 2 diabetes tend to be at higher risk of vascular dementia and the cognitive decline associated with such brain changes.
In fact those who suffer from diabetes have an increased risk of developing MCI or mild cognitive impairment. This is a sort of transition stage in between the normal aging cognitive changes and the serious problems caused by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers are yet to pin point strategies to avoid developing Alzheimer’s disease as a complication of diabetes. Although new insights may be able to reveal how to treat the disease better soon.

Chromium is used by the human body as a trace mineral. It is very beneficial to those who are suffering from diabetes. This is because chromium potentates insulin which is to say that it helps to boost the production of the insulin in the body. In a person suffering from diabetes the insulin production is usually lower than desired and causes the blood sugar levels to rise.
Naturally if it is possible to boost the production of insulin in the body it will be beneficial to the diabetic person. It also prevents hyperglycemia and gestational diabetes. It can also help delay adult onset diabetes. The removal of insulin resistance from the body and making it more insulin sensitive is an important function of chromium. Please remember that industrial chromium is a totally different thing from the trace mineral that the body needs.
The sources of chromium in the diet include onion, tomato, potato, romaine lettuce, liver, oysters and bran. It is also possible to get a mineral supplement which can provide you with the recommended daily dose of the mineral. However you will have to ensure that you also include vitamin C and niacin in your diet as they help to absorb the chromium into the body.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy or DPN is a common and painful complication which is suffered by many diabetic patients. The high levels of blood sugar can, over a period of time, damage the peripheral nerves of the body.
This can lead to the death of a number of sensory neurons causing acute pain or numbness in the limbs of the diabetic person. It is why the tingling feeling exists in the arms and extremities of the body. In case of extreme disabilities it may even be possible that amputation may have to be done.
The researchers at the University of Kansas led by Micheal J. Urban have suggested that the Hsp70 protein can be used to reverse the loss of function in the nerves of those afflicted with diabetes. They have been able to actually reverse the nerve damage termed as neuropathy in mice which have diabetes.
This when applied to humans will mean a fresh form of treatment for DPN apart from glucose control and pain management. These two were the only way to deal with neuropathy so far, but now with the regulation of Hsp70 being inhibited, reversal of neuronal degeneration may also be a possible cure for the medical condition.

There are a number of diabetes wellness models which have been developed and used by diabetics worldwide. Here is a description of one of the more popular ones.
The 7 Tiers of Wellness Pyramid
This model says that the causes of disease are food, lifestyle, knowledge, mindset and drugs. If you can prevent these factors from creating a problem you will be able to manage your body and keep it disease free. If you already have diabetes you will be able to keep it under control.
The seven stages staring with the apex and proceeding downwards are mentioned below.
Plan- Without a plan you do not have any hope of controlling diabetes. So you need to come up with a viable one.
Lifestyle- Modification is the key word here. If the way you lived before was just fine you would not have developed diabetes.
Exercise/Fitness- Is a must. The only way to tone up the body and boost the immune system is to exercise daily and stay fit.
Nutrition- If you do not put in the right fuel for your body it will give up on you half way to your destination.
Financial Resources- Remember to manage in what you have. Just because you have diabetes is no reason to go broke trying to control the disease.
Intellectual/ Knowledge Base- Read up and learn about the condition. Remember knowledge is power.
Emotional/ Spiritual Health- When your body is healthy you can work on the emotional health of your being.

The disease of diabetes is characterised with a high level of blood glucose in the body due to the malfunction of the pancreas. This makes it impossible to make the required amounts of insulin needed by the body to digest the sugar released by food as it is processed in the body. This is why diabetes is also known as a metabolic disease.
The presence of diabetes in the body is linked with the possible development of a number of other related disorders and diseases such as heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular diseases, peripheral neuropathy and a number of other neurological disorders. To keep these complications at bay it is important for the person to have strong immunity.
The strength exercises for muscles are a good way to build this immunity. With regular practice of resistance training the individual will have improved blood cholesterol, decreased blood pressure, improved insulin sensitivity, more muscular strength, increase in bone strength, better blood glucose control and more endurance levels.
Research has shown that circuit weight training for three months can bring about all these benefits to even those who are suffering from diabetes. 15 to 20 repetitions with 30 seconds rests between stations is seen as the ideal to reach with progression.

As per Australian specialists from Garvin Institute of Medical research based in Sydney the addition of small doses of coconut oil in the daily diet can actually help lower fat levels in the body. this consumption of small amounts of coconut oil can also help protect the body against insulin resistance and this helps prevent the chances of a person developing type 2 diabetes.
The study was conducted by Nigel Turner and Jamming Ye on mice which were given lard and coconut oil based diet. Mice are metabolically very similar to human beings and their bodies are often used in experimental drug studies. The mice which were given the coconut oil doses managed to be more effective in weight management.
Coconut oil is very rich in medium chain fatty acids which are different from the long chain fatty acids that one usually consumes in animal based fats. The medium chain fatty acids which are plant based can help the human body to lose fat more effectively.
However they can add up to a fatty build up in liver so they must be eaten with a care. Eating coconut oil is not a weight loss therapy at all. Much more research needs to be done to confirm how the coconut oil can actually help the human body.

Diabetes can be more prevalent in those people who have a family history of the disease. That is to say that if your parents or grandparents had type 2 diabetes you are far more likely to develop it as well. It does not mean that you will definitely develop the disease, merely that you are in a high risk group.
So if you know that you are at risk of developing diabetes you should be on your guard to prevent it from happening. There are a number of things that you can set into motion to make sure that you eat healthy, stay fit and not get diagnosed with diabetes. One of the easiest ways to do this would be to think like a diabetic.
Before you eat something that is rich in sugar and heavy on the fatty acids ask yourself a simple question. If you had diabetes would you eat it? The answer would be a resounding no. Although that does not mean you give up eating all your favorite foods altogether, just that you eat with an awareness of what the food is giving you.
The same principle applies to exercise. Will you sleep in late all the holidays or will you go outdoors and get some exercise? If you were diabetic you would have to compulsorily get some exercise each day.

Your diet can be a powerful ally in your fight against diabetes. What a diabetic eats will effect the blood sugar levels instantly. If you are the kind who loves to eat, make sure that you are eating the right things. Some great natural remedies to help with diabetes are available on your kitchen shelf.
In fact if you eat to live you will do your body a huge favor. Binging on food and drinks will shoot your blood sugar through the roof and cause you great physical discomfort as well. Foods that you must be careful about consuming include those high in starch, fats and refine sugars.
Also avoid alcohol as it will stress you already pressured liver and heart. It is a good idea to eat foods that promote a healthy lifestyle and are organic. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good for not just diabetics but for the whole family.
In fact eat as much raw foods as possible and cut down on the processed foods. The best way to do this is plan your diet out with a dietitian and then stick to it. Don’t get tempted to eat that one hot chocolate fudge on your outing to the mall.
